This is a Fossil Whelk! This specimen is scientifically known as
Busycon rucksorum
. Fossil whelks and clams collected from this locality are often filled with Golden Calcite AKA Honey Calcite Crystals. These crystals form inside the shell as the organic matter decomposes over time.
*The only way to know if this Fossilized Whelk contains crystals is to cut it open.* The top portion of this shell displays Calcite Crystals, so there is a high possibility that this specimen contains crystals!
